miasmah · James Welburn - In and out of blue

Images from my recording sessions at Trondheim Øra Studios with Tomas Järmyr (Motorpsycho, Zu, Yodok). Where we developed the drum parts for three of the Sleeper in the Void album tracks. On the first session we captured 'Raze' and the title track 'Sleeper in the Void' with sound engineer Karl Klaseie . In the second session with Kyrre Laastad engineering, we mostly concentrated on tracking 'In and Out of Blue'. The collaborative process in the formation of these drum parts is a really fond memory for me. Tomas would perform to my playbacks, and slowly we'd chip away at the core of the piece. Over a series of drum takes a direction would form and we'd dig more into it, until we'd arrive at something that was undeniably the answer.  Pure creative energy, recorded in a great setting. These photos by Juliane Schütz capture the atmosphere of those sessions very well. 

All three of these tracks have been mixed together with Boris Wilsdorf (Einstuerzende Neubauten) during the Pandemic at andereBaustelle Tonstudio Berlin, using live online collaboration technology by Audio Movers.
